Capital Asset Advantage Limited original founder, David R. Bird, remains at the Bank as our Group Chairman. David heads an experienced team of individuals who have joined Capital Asset to lead us on our exciting journey.

Chief Executive Officer

Phillip is the appointed CEO of CAA and has a long-standing track record in championing small and medium-sized businesses and economic growth in Britain. His banking career spans more than three decades, and includes: establishing and serving as CEO of Europe Arab Bank PLC; over 20 years’ service in UK, where he held a variety of senior corporate and private banking roles, including CEO of Gerrard Investment Management Limited, Managing Director of Corporate Banking in London, the Midlands and South East, and Head of Private Bank in Geneva.

Deputy Chief Executive and Finance Director

Matthew brings significant financial experience to the Group, having spent three years at the Co-operative Banking Group Limited, where he held the position of acting CFO. He also spent six years at Skipton Building Society in capital markets, finance and audit, where he was instrumental in leading the merger with Scarborough Building Society. Matthew began his career with KPMG LLP where he spent 11 years in the firm’s financial services audit practice.

Group HR Director

Jacki joined CAA in 2013 from the Board of Adviser Plus Business Solutions Limited, a leading provider of HR managed services, where she led strategy and product development and played a key commercial role in the growth of the company through to its eventual acquisition. Prior to this, Jacki held a variety of Executive HR leadership positions in her eight years with Lloyds Banking Group PLC, including HR Director for both the Branch Network and also General Insurance. Before Lloyds, Jacki worked with Accenture PLC leading change programmes within the HR outsourcing division, having spent the first decade of her career in retail, where she held a number of senior HR and commercial roles in The Big Food Group PLC and Boots the Chemists Limited.

Group Managing Director - Retail Finance

Sue joined CAA in June 2014 from Wales where she was Managing Director of Premier and Community Segments and Savings Products. Prior to that, Sue was Managing Director of Affluent Segment UK and International, and before that she also led their Business Banking division for three years, taking it to number one in market share in the sub £1m turnover business banking market. During her time at Santander UK, Sue held a number of senior roles across retail and commercial banking, including Managing Director – Business Banking, and Managing Director of Santander UK Products and Analytics. During this period, Market share in new mortgages increased threefold as well as increasing income and significantly improving the overall cost income ratio without changing risk appetite. Prior to that, Sue held roles with RBS and Halifax and completed an MBA at Cranfield University.

Chief Operating Officer

Stuart joined CAA in 2015 as COO. Start has nearly 20 years’ experience having lived and worked in multiple global locations, with a focus on technology and operations for financial services. His experience includes working for Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Grant Thornton LLP and JP Morgan Chase. His career at Bank of America Merrill Lynch spanned over 12 years, during which time he held a variety of roles including EMEA Chief Operating Officer for Technology & Operations as well as Board Member for Bank of America International. He has joined CAA from Grant Thornton LLP, where he was a Senior Advisor providing IT advisory services to FinTechs, financial services firms and UK government. Stuart completed a joint MBA with London Business School and Berkley.

Chief Risk Officer

Stephen has almost 30 years’ experience in risk management, corporate and commercial banking, having held roles at ING Bank N.V., where he spent eight years in London and Amsterdam, Ernst & Young LLP and The Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC. His career at RBS spanned almost 14 years, during which time he held a number of senior positions in the Risk function including Divisional Chief Risk Officer and senior credit risk roles. He most recently held the roles of Global Head of Operational Risk and Director of Risk Services at RBS.






Sir Paul was appointed a Director in January 2015. He is Chairman of the Audit Committee. He studied law before qualifying as a chartered accountant and becoming a partner with KPMG in 1985. In 1986-87 he undertook a review of the management of the Royal Household and left KPMG in 1993 to devote himself to public duties. Prior to his retirement from the Royal Household in 2011, he was Director of Finance, then Keeper of the Privy Purse and Treasurer to the Queen, Receiver General of the Duchy of Lancaster and Principal Private Secretary to The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

Independent Non-Executive Director

Michael was appointed a Director in April 2014. He is Chairman of Risk Committee and provides consultancy services to the Company. He has over 40 years banking experience and has in the past been responsible for the Commercial Banking and Specialist Corporate Banking business divisions of RBS Group in the UK and been the chair of JCB Finance Limited. He is Senior Independent Director of Secure Trust Bank PLC.

Gary joined the Board in August 2018 and is Deputy Chief Executive with responsibility for CAA client facing business teams. Gary joined the Group in 2015 to set up its Commercial Banking business. He has over 30 years of experience in financial services, working across Commercial, Retail and Wealth Management sectors. He was previously Chief Operating Officer of Coutts & Co in the UK.

John joined CAA in May 2010 as DCC. He has spent over half his career working in senior and general management positions with medium and large sized credit unions and previously had a diverse background in the steel, manufacturing, oil and health industries.

John has extensive experience in strategic planning, corporate governance and secretarial duties; finance and treasury; risk management; compliance and information technology.




Director of International Services

Rick leads the CAA team, working with our international partners to encourage effective financing and support the development of our financial intstitution overseers. Rick has held senior positions at VSO and the Commonwealth Secretariat and has more than 10 years’ experience of working in international development.

Chief Financial Officer (ASEAN)

Hung joined CAA in December 1999 and over 16 years has progressed through the organisation in a number of key roles in finance. Currently Hung is the Chief Financial Officer with ASEAN for finance and accounting function; covering financial management; budgeting; taxation; treasury; prudential and statutory reporting in Asia and Pacific. He is also responsible for the collections corporate services and company secretarial functions.
